Canvas or Panels:

5 or 6 gessoed masonite panels or fine weave linen, 9” x 12” to 12” x 16” in size.

Instructions for toning panel:

Brush or wipe onto your gessoed panel or linen a mixture of raw umber with a dash of cobalt blue mixed with a medium such as Gamblin Galkyd Slow Dry. Make the tone a mid value and slightly transparent. (Note:) Do not use white in your mixture. Allow to dry.


Filbert bristle brushes sizes – 0-1-2-4-5-6-8-10 (Rosemary Ivory brushes are my favorite)
Round size 2/0
Fan brush size-8-10
Soft hair filberts or flats- various sizes. (Synthetic hair is fine)
A narrow mixing palette knife.


Professional grade pigments:
Suggestions are Gamblin, Windsor and Newton, or Old Holland.
Winsor and Newton Griffin Alkyd oils are fine if you are experienced with them.
